Product focus of the month: Y-Yo Mojo Citrus

Y-Yo Mojo Citrus is perfect for love and with Valentine’s Day fast approaching its intoxicating essential oil blend is certain to get you and your partner in the mood. Initially the top notes of provocative pink pepper and tangy lime create a raptuous sensation. The olfactory delights of fruity, lush magnolia and piquant marjoram, the flowers of which were said to be used in Aphrodites’ love potions, make up the heart notes. Together, this beautiful harmony is softened with the almond-vanilla smell of tonka bean used, most famously, in Chanel No 5.

If you fancy giving Y-Yo Mojo Citrus as a gift, don’t forget that we offer stylish gift boxes adorned with black satin ribbon.

Y-Yo Mojo ingredients: certified organic alcohol, aqua (water), plant-based solubiliser, 100% organic essential oils of - lime, magnolia, pink pepper, tonka bean, lemon and marjoram.

Chemical free tip of the month

This month I’d like to talk about the three nasties in conventional nail polish - Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde and Toluene.  Summer’s a great time of year to show off perfectly pedicured feet and brightly coloured toe nails so do your homework (in our directory Ethical Beauty for the Australian Green Goddess of course) and locate one of the many brands that now offer nail polish in gorgeous, glossy shades without these three chemicals.

DBP prevents chips and cracks. Phthalates have been linked to menstrual disorders, miscarriages, and reduced gestation and baby delivery rates in many studies. [One such study: ACGIH 1991]

Formaldehyde tends to be in nail hardeners rather than nail polish. Acute adverse effects of formaldehyde include watery eyes; burning sensations in the eyes, nose, and throat, coughing; wheezing; nausea; and skin irritation. And although the long term effects are unknown the U.S. EPA classified it as a probable human carcinogen under “conditions of unusually high or prolonged exposure” in 1987.

Toluene makes nail polish easy to apply and is found in petrol, acrylic paints, varnishes, lacquers, paint thinners, adhesives, glues, rubber cement, airplane glue and shoe polish. Readily absorbed through the skin, it is not considered carcinogenic, but can affect the central nervous system.
